This was our second time visiting Camp Hatteras. Personnel have been nothing but friendly and welcoming, the onsite store is very convenient, and facilities are clean and maintained. Last year we stayed on the beach side RV sites, and this year we stayed on the sound side in an “RV site”. IMPORTANT NOTE: When booking sound side sites, only complaint I have is they don’t tell you some of the tent sites (in purple triangle on the park map) they allow you to book as RV sites, which puts you in a sea of tent campers. Was not ideal because we had a family with 3-4 tents per site behind us and it was annoying at times when you just wanted to relax outside your camper. RECOMMENDATION: Camp Hatteras - I recommend updating your booking because most RVers don’t want to be mixed with tent sites for this reason. For us we came with other family who thankfully didn’t have a bunch of tent campers around them and so we just hung out at their site mostly. But was not ideal, especially because the sites cost the same and we couldn’t even enjoy it.
We enjoyed the bayside as it is a little calmer vibe, HOWEVER- being closer to the sound comes the mother-load of mosquitoes and ants! Flies weren’t bad, but I am not exaggerating when I say my husband and I were eaten alive the entire time despite our best efforts! During the day, all day long, day and night. I even got so desperate I went to the dollar general up the street and bought borax and sugar and made some ant bait stations to control them at our site which helped. Highly recommend bringing Terra ant traps and perimeter spray of some kind if you stay on the sound side!
I would give them 5 stars but the WiFi was awful. We were literally 2 campsites from the extender and another close by and we had NO internet. Phones could not even connect. We spend all that money and they can't give you this service but Elon can give it to third world countries. Otherwise the campground was top notch. Having the beach right there was awesome. Men's bathroom always had issues too. But it was a concrete campsite and all set up nice. If I had WiFi I would give a lot more than 5 stars. All in all it was really a nice campground
My family and I just recently started our RV journey along the eastern coastline from PA down to FL. With OBX being one of our stops, we looked at different campsites that would accommodate our fifth wheel RV for the week and that’s when Camp Hatteras popped up. We honestly tried booking next door at the KOA and I am soo thankful that we ended up booking at Camp Hatteras. I would give this campsite 10 stars if that was an option. Our stay was wonderful and I am so pleased with our overall experience. The campsite ( family owned) was very much well kept, the facilities including the bathrooms/ washroom/ laundry was very clean, probably the cleanest facility I’ve been to. The campsite is next to the beach which is a plus and they really do go beyond to create events each day of the week for the whole family ( arts & crafts, bingo, cornhole tournaments, karaoke, making tie-dye shirts, Father’s Day pancake brunch, etc.. The list really goes on. A very popular attraction would be the weekly farmers market on site held every Wed from 9 AM - 1 PM
(during the summer months) I spent the whole morning there and it was wonderful! Nothing better than getting fresh local produce and handmade jewelry :) Lets talk about the staff.. They were nothing short of AMAZING! They were all so good with the kids and making sure everyone is enjoying their stay. It wasn’t just a job for them, it was about building friendships with each family that checks in and helping them create lasting memories being on Hatteras Island. I want to give a shoutout to their team members Mary Ann and Scotty, thank you for all that you do, especially caring for our kids like they were your own and making our trip so memorable. Our son Parker is already asking when we will be back to see you guys again :)
We planned this trip 2 months ago. We called to see if we can reserve a spot and they said it was first come to get a spot and not reserve it. When we got here last week there was spots open we wanted but the people in office said it was reserved for someone else. Which was sucked honestly. Since our spot wasnt the best of what we wanted.. the first night the electric was acting up. Some stuff wasnt working in our camper. Our neighbors had same issues too. They got it fixed the next day or so. The beach was super convenient for being right there. The hot tub was nice as well. We just wish we were able to reserve our spot like other people were able to do. But overall nice location. The showers were little iffy and dirty at the campground. Pressure was super wimpy as well. It is still a nice campground and the workers were friendly.
As a family new to RV camping, we couldn’t have asked for a better first experience at Camp Hatteras RV Resort. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. The gentleman at the entrance took his time to explain the campground, gave us a map, recommended local spots to eat, get ice cream, and showed us all the amenities, including the pool, laundry, showers, and game room. When we reached our campsite, a staff member came over before I even finished backing in, and after hearing it was our first time, he kindly walked us through each hookup, water, sewer, electric, and showed us exactly how everything worked. That kind of kindness and customer service meant a lot. The campground was clean, well maintained, and the beach was just a short walk away. Our kids made new friends, we met some wonderful families, and even exchanged numbers for future trips. This was an unforgettable first RV camping experience, and Camp Hatteras has earned a place on our family’s summer tradition list. Thank you to the entire staff. We can’t wait to come back.
