Cape Point Campground
About
Cape Point Campground with 202 sites is located southwest of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Hatteras (also known as Cape Point) itself. Open spring-late fall. Campsite reservations are limited to same-day reservations only. Campsites must be booked via recreation.gov.
Reservations: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251945
Overview
Cape Point has over 200 sites across loops A through K, each with a paved parking pad, picnic table, and charcoal grill. Four restroom buildings and outdoor showers are distributed through the campground, with potable water spigots throughout. Rows D, E, and F are tent-only; no RV hookups anywhere.
Good to Know
All sites are fully exposed with no shade. Camping is limited to 14 days between Easter and Thanksgiving. Maximum 6 people, 2 vehicles (or 1 car + 1 trailer), and 2 tents per site. Reservations may be canceled on short notice due to flooding risk — a real, known constraint here, not a one-off.
