Delicious food, reasonable prices, shady picnic tables, delightful workers. We had sandwiches, noodle bowl and protein bowl (with red drum) and loved every bite.

A casual lunch counter in Ocracoke village, open midday six days a week
Back Porch Lunchbox is a lunch counter on Irvin Garrish Highway in Ocracoke village, serving a straightforward midday menu six days a week, 11am to 4pm. The name says it plainly — this is a stop for lunch, not dinner, and the kitchen closes well before evening.
There's no website listed for the spot yet, so calling ahead is the most reliable way to confirm hours before making the trip out — particularly useful if you're timing things around the Hatteras ferry schedule. With a midday-only window, it fits easily into a short island visit: a quick lunch before or after wandering the village around Silver Lake Harbor, or before heading up-island toward the beaches and the pony pen.

A very nice young man took our order. I purchased a delicious hummus/lettuce on pita bread.

Sandwiches and pita's tasted like they had been stored for a couple days in the refrigerator before serving. Bland, and dry. Seating is a picnic table. We should have realized it wasn't great when no one was there but us. It did have shade trees.

Always a quick bite to be had. Small wraps and sandwiches, a selection of chips and drinks. Decent prices if you need a quick bite for a ferry ride. There are picnic tables to sit outside in the shade if you have time. I love the simple hummus wrap. Some items are vegetarian.

Was in a hurry to catch the ferry at the opposite side of the island so I didn’t have much time - stopped here not expecting much but boy was I surprised! Generous sized portions and DELICIOUS sandwich/wrap! I will for sure be back!
