Buxton's easygoing coffee and bakery stop, open early every day
Beads & Grinds is a small coffee and bakery stop on Buxton Back Road, tucked just off NC-12 in Buxton, the Hatteras Island village best known as the home of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It's a straightforward, budget-friendly counter for coffee and baked goods before a day on the beach or out at one of the seashore's ORV ramps — no frills, just coffee and something baked to go with it.
The shop opens early every day at 6:45 a.m. Monday through Wednesday it closes at noon, while Thursday through Sunday it stays open until 4 p.m., giving most of the week a longer window for an afternoon coffee or snack.
Buxton sits roughly midway down Hatteras Island, a narrower, more exposed stretch of the Outer Banks where NC-12 is the only road linking the villages. Storm-driven closures and washouts here are a normal, ongoing part of life rather than a rare event, so it's worth checking road conditions before visiting during hurricane season (June through November).

How does a coffee shop not have a bathroom? Sign says no public bathroom so I asked if that was true for paying customers. I was ready to get an Americano and peruse the shop (after peeing, as I just drove over an hour) but instead just a Gen Z stare “no bathroom…” ok bye
