About

Broken Plate Kitchen sits right on Ocean Trail, the paved main road running through Corolla, making it an easy stop for anyone staying oceanside or soundside without needing a 4x4 to get there. It runs as a combination bar and kitchen — categorized locally as a brewery-and-bar spot — with a $$ price range that keeps things casual rather than a special-occasion splurge.

Early Mornings, Late Nights

The schedule here doesn't follow a standard restaurant clock. Doors open around 7:30am most days, catching the coffee-and-breakfast crowd before the beach traffic picks up. Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays run well past midnight into the 1 and 2am range, while Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday wrap up by evening — worth a quick check before you plan a late one.

What to Expect

It's listed under bar, restaurant, and food categories, so the menu should cover both a proper sit-down meal and a stop at the bar for a drink. Because it sits on Ocean Trail rather than out past the end of the pavement, getting here just takes a normal car — no oversand permit, no airing down tires, no timing your visit around the tide. That's a contrast to Corolla's northern reaches, where the wild horses roam and the road simply stops.

Call ahead at (252) 597-1755 or check the website for the latest on hours, since the schedule shifts night to night.

Broken Plate was wonderful! Being in OBX for vacation, we were unaware that the town winds down at 9pm. Wife and I showed up at 8:30pm and Broken Plate welcomed us in! Restaurant looks great and the bar is impressive! The service tho, was phenomenal! Our server, Adam, made my birthday dinner awesome! He was very professional, so polite and knowledgeable. No rush, despite not knowing they were in the process of closing for the night... Google lied and said they were open late, but Broken Plate welcomed us in and made our night! Adam's menu suggestions were appreciated and the food itself was delicious! GREAT espresso martini as well!

We came to Broken Plate Kitchen on a Friday night while vacationing in the Outer Banks with a group of 10, and had such a great experience! We had a reservation and were seated right away, and the staff was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the night. We tried the sea scallops, calamari, and bread to start, and everything was excellent. The scallops were cooked to perfection! For my main, I ordered the shrimp and grits and it honestly blew me away. So flavorful, with a nice kick of heat that I really appreciated since I love spicy food. My husband had the Rasta pasta with chicken, which was also delicious and full of flavor. I would absolutely come back if we're ever in the Outer Banks again. Great food, great service, and such a wonderful experience overall. Highly recommend!

The food was delicious and they were getting busy pretty quickly even in an off season. Very neat and clean. Our server was wonderful, very attentive, and overall service was very good, other than a minor issue with a couple of ingredients missing off my spouse's sandwich, but it was addressed and taken care of immediately. Best she-crab soup I've ever had, and my fish and chips entree was perfection, though not in a typical presentation. The batter was so good. Chicken tenders were delicious too!

Returned to dine here after a positive experience last year. This time we ended up very disappointed in the food. Crab cakes undercooked and full of filler, lots of filler, with no lump meat just tiny shredded back fin meat. Filet was under cooked as well. While the service and setting is very nice the price of the food and quality of the preparation was not. Would not dine here again.

The server was very nice, the food was not fantastic. $17 for 6 pieces of French toast (3 slices of bread) nothing with it. I got the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were hard. The gravy was ok, as were the hash browns. Maybe the other reviews are for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was meh.
