Buxton seafood spot open six days a week, closed only on Sunday
Cockeyed Clam Restaurant serves seafood on NC-12 in Buxton, the Hatteras Island village best known as home to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It's open six days a week: Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday have confirmed hours of 10am to 2pm, a lunch-and-early-afternoon window rather than a dinner one. Tuesday and Wednesday are also open, though we don't have confirmed hours for those two days. Sunday is the only day it's closed.
There's no website on file for Cockeyed Clam, so a phone call is the most reliable way to confirm Tuesday and Wednesday hours, ask what's on the menu that day, or check on seating before making the drive. That's worth keeping in mind generally on this stretch of the island — NC-12 is the only road connecting the Hatteras villages, and it can close during storms, so it's always smart to call ahead rather than assume a business's hours are locked in.

Glad we stopped here! Lovely meal on the beautiful porch. The food was a true hit. Be sure to get the Coconut shrimp app before your delicious meal. The side salad was even elevated with the best Italian dressing and freshest veggies. We got the Sailors Platter and the Seafood Alfredo. Our waitress was such a lovely person and had a great attitude served with a smile.

First time eating at Cockeyed Clam, definitely won’t be my last! The waitress, Kalene was amazing and provided excellent service! The food was phenomenal! Homemade pasta and Alfredo *chef kiss*! Never going back to box pasta again! My boyfriend had triple tail for the first time and he loved it! The drinks were on point. Overall, an excellent experience and look forward to visiting again when we’re back on vacation!

Amazing!!!! From Kimberly opening the door and greeting us to Maggie making us a cocktail while we encountered a short wait the initial welcoming made us feel like family. Our four year old took to Kimberly right away. She grabbed her hand and wanted to play. Sophie is usually shy with any strangers but Kim was her best friend right away. And even though she was busy, she didn’t deny Sophie of anything. We got there at the height of their service. They had just sat a 17 top, a 13 top , and many small tables in between. Yes, from our wait time to paying the check was roughly a two hour experience but what do you expect on a spring break holiday in a very busy smaller restaurant . The restaurant had cars lined up and down the driveway and across the street on the baseball field. People sitting inside, outside and the bar was slammed. No one working was stressed. You could tell it was a lively mix of local and visiting families. They did what they had to do to take care of us. The fried chicken was amazing! The meatloaf was so moist and flavorful. The fried seafood was lightly battered and fried to a golden brown. We had Erin as a server and she did a phenomenal job taking care of us . Sophie said her kids Alfredo and green beans was the sooooo good and Kimberly even took the time to sit with her for a few minutes while she ate . We have been to a restaurant when the manager, bartender and server were so accommodating and made us feel welcome . But OMG, the flipping peanut butter pie was the seal of the deal. I’ve traveled from around the world and never had a dessert like that. Melt in your mouth goodness that actually relaxed you as you ate it. Sophie asked if we could come back tomorrow and have dinner again and we all agreed! We have to try the banana pudding next !

We stopped here today because my husband liked the name. Holy cow, I’m glad we did. We were only going in for apps and cocktails. We had the calamari, Caesar salad and clams in white wine. The food was amazing and the server was excellent.

Food was not the greatest. Got the fried plate that had 5 different items. Everything was overly battered. Crab cakes were heavily seasoned & mostly breading not much crab. FF were thin & crispy & yummy. Good coleslaw.
