Dinky's Waterfront Restaurant

Waterfront dining at Village Marina, right on Hatteras Harbor

(865)
$$$$Hatteras, NC

About

Dinky's Waterfront Restaurant sits at Village Marina in Hatteras village, at the southern end of Hatteras Island where NC-12 runs out and the free NC ferry departs for Ocracoke Island. The marina puts it in the working center of the village's harbor, alongside the charter fleet and the ferry docks, rather than out on the main highway strip. It's a moderately priced ($$) option for a meal without straying from the harbor.

Hours

  • Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Open the rest of the week

Because it sits at the island's south end, keep NC-12 conditions in mind if you're driving down from Avon or Buxton — the road here washes out during storms more readily than it does farther north, particularly in hurricane season (August-October). Call ahead for current hours, especially outside peak season.

Great server! I was eating alone and got better service than most places when eating with my family. The lobster was amazing, and the oysters too.

This has always been our favorite spot to eat in Hatteras. We rave to everyone about Dinky's. I hope tonight was just an off night for them because as many times as we've been. I left feeling very underwhelmed. We were told the wait time was an hour and 45 minutes, which was fine, they called us about 30 minutes sooner. We took that time to sit outside and watch the sunset. Our waitress was great, she checked in the perfect amount of times and kept our drinks filled. We ordered the Oysters Rockefeller- Always a must. They were perfect. I ordered my normal- scallops with veggies. When the plate arrived, it looked like the food was just thrown on it without care. It looked like the chef rushed to get it cooked, everything was a pale color which isn't normal. The veggies, and potatoes were underdone. The scallops could've been cooked an extra couple minutes as well. The sauce the scallops were served with was over salted and the potatoes and veggies had no seasoning. We had waited so long, I just went ahead and ate. We will come back again, I just hope that for the price and wait time, the employees slow down and add that finesse back in that was missing last night.

Excellent meal and definitely worth the wait! We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened and there were already 15–20 people ahead of us in line. We had a party of 13 and ended up waiting about an hour and a half for a table, but it was well worth it. I had the Cajun yellowfin tuna special and it was phenomenal! Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We only had one small hiccup with an overcooked steak, but they corrected it right away with no problem at all. Great food and a great experience overall. With a group as large as ours, it's not always easy to get everything right, but they did a fantastic job. We'd definitely eat here again!
