A live-flame name and a daytime-only menu on the main road into Manteo
Firetender sits on N Hwy 64/264, the highway that carries traffic in from the Washington Baum Bridge toward Manteo proper. The name itself points toward live-fire cooking, the kind of detail that makes a highway stop worth pulling off for rather than just passing through on the way into town.
The hours are worth knowing before you go: Firetender is closed Mondays and otherwise keeps a daytime-only schedule, open 7:30am to 3pm Tuesday through Sunday. That window covers breakfast and lunch but not dinner, so plan on a morning or early-afternoon visit rather than an evening one. Pricing falls in the moderate $$ range.
Manteo and the rest of Roanoke Island carry a different rhythm than the beach towns across the bridge — this is the Outer Banks' historic anchor, tied to the unresolved story of the 1580s Lost Colony and centered on the walkable Shallowbag Bay waterfront a bit further into town.

We have had dinner there the past two summers and have loved it ! This visit was a little different . A couple menu changes , they don’t have the Mexican street corn dip or the hot honey chicken . Two of our favorites . We had chicken Alfredo, Smash Burgers and Meatball Sub , All three of those were very good . The Crispy Brussel Sprouts did not have enough balsamic vingerette , very dry . Spaghetti and meatballs , sauce was ok .

Absolutely amazing experience here this afternoon. I believe our server’s name was Doug and he was awesome. We stopped last minute with 9 people and he accommodated us quickly and gave us a quick history on weeping radish beer. The food was amazing! We will definitely be back.
