Lifesaving Station occupies a genuinely historic building on the grounds of The Sanderling Resort, toward the quieter, northern end of Duck's stretch of Duck Road. The restaurant is housed in a former U.S. Life-Saving Service station, moved to the property and restored rather than replicated, so the wood beams and nautical trim are the real thing. Windows face Currituck Sound, and the overall feel is calmer and more polished than the boutique-shop bustle of downtown Duck a few minutes south, in keeping with the resort's understated, upscale character.

It works equally well for a sound-view breakfast before a day at the beach or a slower dinner once the sun starts dropping over the water — Currituck Sound faces west, so sunset views are part of the draw. The historic building is worth a look on its own, separate from the meal. Because resort restaurants sometimes adjust seasonally, it's worth confirming hours directly before planning around a specific meal.

We went here for breakfast. Service was great. Food was ridiculously disappointing. I ordered the ham & cheese omelette with grits and a side of French toast. The omelette had very little cheese or ham so was like a dry scrambled egg. It was also served barely warm. The grits were literally cold. I sent them back to be heated and the next time they served them they too were barely warm! Grits should be served hot! The French “toast” was mush. The center of the bread was literally so wet it was like eating a slice of bread that just came out of water. Mush. And you guessed it - it was also not hot. My experience was terrible!

Took family and friends, while on vacation, here for a brunch (on fathers day). We had no trouble getting a reservation, the dining space was light, airy, clean, and there were a number of options on the menu we were interested in. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and the service was excellent. The one disappointment was that we had looked at the menu online before making our reservation, and particularly chose this place because they offered key lime pie (my daughters favorite). We are from further north where it is difficult to get good key lime pie, so we were all planning to have that for dessert. At the end of the meal we asked to order dessert, and were told that there was no dessert available. Since it was already after 11am, this didn't make much sense, even if it had been listed incorrectly on the "brunch" offerings, it was essentially lunch time. That was our only real disappointment, and that our server didn't try to see what she could do, or ask a manager, or anything else. Our entire group of 7 was really looking forward to that to finish off our meal. Other than that it was a very nice experience.
