Lifesaving Station occupies a genuinely historic building on the grounds of The Sanderling Resort, toward the quieter, northern end of Duck's stretch of Duck Road. The restaurant is housed in a former U.S. Life-Saving Service station, moved to the property and restored rather than replicated, so the wood beams and nautical trim are the real thing. Windows face Currituck Sound, and the overall feel is calmer and more polished than the boutique-shop bustle of downtown Duck a few minutes south, in keeping with the resort's understated, upscale character.

It works equally well for a sound-view breakfast before a day at the beach or a slower dinner once the sun starts dropping over the water — Currituck Sound faces west, so sunset views are part of the draw. The historic building is worth a look on its own, separate from the meal. Because resort restaurants sometimes adjust seasonally, it's worth confirming hours directly before planning around a specific meal.

My mom and I were staying at The Sanderling Resort and stopped at Lifesaving Station for breakfast, and we’re so glad we did! We booked our stay through Amex FHR, which gave us $60 to use towards breakfast. I had the Outer Banks Breakfast and a latte, while my mom had the Maple Bourbon French Toast with a side of bacon and a coffee. Everything was delicious, and the portions were great. Our server, Simone, was also wonderful and made the experience even better. The restaurant is right on the resort property, so it was super convenient. We were only staying one night, but if we had stayed longer, we definitely would have eaten breakfast here every morning. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed dinner and breakfast here. For dinner I enjoyed a Mahi special that was absolutely delicious. I also tried the crabcakes which were meaty and big on flavor as well. For breakfast I enjoyed their rendition of corned beef hash and eggs with a homemade biscuit. Big pieces of corned beef atop hashbrowns with perfectly cooked over-easy eggs on top.

We had the pleasure of having breakfast and dinner at the Lifesaving Station a few times while staying at the Sanderling. The food was delicious, service was timely and everyone was very friendly. Portions were generous and we left full every time. Our favorites were the lemon ricotta pancakes, lamb chops, grits (I usually do not like grits), and the cocktails were good. We had a lovely conversation with the Director of Food and Beverage, Andrew Gallimore and have to say that he is doing a fantastic job there and at Theodosia.

I spent a week in town and tried Lifesaving Station, a standout find. I ordered the braised Angus short rib with broccolini and potatoes, and it did not disappoint the meat was tender and flavorful, and the accompaniments paired perfectly. Our waitress was wonderful, attentive, and made great recommendations. The atmosphere was pleasant and inviting, making it a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring. If you’re in town, I’d gladly recommend Lifesaving Station for a reliable, enjoyable meal.
