About

Mulligan's Grille sits on S Croatan Highway (US-158) in Nags Head — the inland four-lane corridor that runs the length of the northern Outer Banks, a separate route from the oceanfront Beach Road (NC-12). It's listed as a brewery and bar as much as a restaurant, so plan on a pub-style kitchen paired with a beer-forward drink list, priced in the moderate $$ range.

The kitchen and bar run seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with no listed break between lunch and dinner — handy if you're coming off the beach at an odd hour and don't want to wait around for a dinner-only kitchen to open. That kind of continuous daytime-into-evening schedule is typical for this stretch of Croatan Highway, where restaurants serve a beach crowd that doesn't keep restaurant hours.

The name nods to Nags Head's real Cottage Row — the row of century-old, unpainted shingle cottages known locally as the "Unpainted Aristocracy," a National Historic Landmark district on the oceanfront Beach Road. This address, though, is over on Croatan Highway, a separate inland route — so treat the name as a nod to that history rather than a literal location inside the cottage district.

Reach the restaurant directly at (252) 480-2000 or through its website for current details, especially during the Memorial Day–Labor Day peak season when this corridor gets busy at dinner hours.

This was our first visit. The food was good and our server was friendly and efficient. The oysters I had were a bit on the small side but there were a lit of them. My fries were so-so and not overly warm. A 2026 UPDATE: Our second visit was considerably better. We shared a steamed platter of oysters, shrimp & crab legs. It was excellent. The string beans with peppers & onions were surprisingly tasty. The orange crush cheesecake was a nice finish to a great meal. And our server Caitlin was excellent. My only minor complaint was that the beer prices were a bit high. We will return.

Dont order snow crab its a joke for what you get. Quality of restaurant has been going down every year but prices are going up. Not worth it. Go to Blue Moon.
