Nelly's SandBar sits right on Ocean Trail, the main road that carries traffic through Corolla before it eventually gives way to the unpaved 4x4 beaches to the north. It's a casual, unfussy restaurant — the kind of place suited to walking in straight off the sand rather than one that asks for reservations or dress codes. At the $$ price range, it lands as a reasonably priced option for a family dinner or a low-key meal without a lot of planning.

Open six days a week, closed on Saturdays.
Weekday hours run from late morning into the early evening; Sunday hours start about an hour earlier and wrap up a bit sooner.
Located on Ocean Trail (NC-12) in central Corolla — regular car access, well south of the 4x4-only beach communities.

The address puts it within easy reach of Corolla's historic district, where the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Whalehead Club draw most of the day-trip traffic, so it works well as a stop before or after either. It's also a reasonable pick heading toward or back from the northern end of the island, where the paved road ends and beach driving takes over. As with most spots on this stretch, hours can shift by season, so a quick call ahead is worth it if you're timing a visit around a specific day — especially heading into the shoulder and off-season months.

I got the black and blue salad with the Ribeye steak and had feta instead of the blue cheese and it was delicious and very filling! Other table got just the ribeye meal and it was good. We also got the nachos and they were good, chicken on it is huge chunks, so that was hard to eat with the nachos, definitely needed to use silverware. Salad came out with the meal instead of before. Kids enjoyed the meals. No refills offered for our table. We were a party of 12 and sat in booths around the restaurant since it was a small seating space. Servers were nice.

Just had a wonderful dinner at Nelly’s Sand Bar and had to leave a review for our fantastic server, Shannon! She was incredibly personable, attentive, and made us feel right at home from the moment we sat down. Shannon took great care of us and had such a warm, friendly vibe that really enhanced our whole experience. The food was delicious! My son loved his chicken fingers, Michael thoroughly enjoyed the jalapeño shrimp, and my taco salad was fresh and flavorful. Everything came out perfectly and hit the spot. If you’re in the area, definitely stop by Nelly’s Sand Bar and ask for Shannon—you won’t be disappointed! Thank you for the great service! 🙌 Highly recommend!

We had a fun time. Server was exceptional and very friendly. Food was typical, not the best quesadilla. Hush puppies delish. Nice selection of draft beer. 1 from each category.

Great food, slow service! We arrived for an early dinner, there was only one person handling front of house and she had her hands full with all of the tables. It's a pretty small restaurant so they might not be able to justify bringing on more staff. I enjoyed the food but it didn't seem like they're setup for great service currently.

Fantastic stop in Corolla. Food was fresh and hot, the beer was cold and on tap. My favorite part was the tartar sauce, it was homemade and had some spice, definitely a must get. Mike the owner was awesome and gave me a bunch of free beer koozies. The waitress staff was also really helpful and that goes a long way. Been coming to the OBX for over 20 years and will absolutely make this a regular stop.
