Neptunes Kitchen and Dive Bar sits on NC-12 in Rodanthe, at the northern end of the string of villages that make up Hatteras Island. It's a combined kitchen and bar — food and drinks in one casual room, priced in the moderate range — the kind of low-key stop locals and visitors duck into after a day on the water or the beach.

• No standalone website — current hours, specials, and updates are posted on their Facebook page.
• Sits directly on NC-12, the only road connecting Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo to the rest of the island. Check conditions before you go if a storm's moving through, since this stretch floods and closes more readily than the beaches to the north.

Getting Here

Rodanthe is reached from the north by crossing the Marc Basnight Bridge over Oregon Inlet from Whalebone Junction. Once you're on the island, Neptunes is an easy stop right along the highway rather than tucked into a side road.
