About

OBX Winery and Hop 'N Grapes OBX sits along N Croatan Highway in Kill Devil Hills, right on the main commercial stretch that ties Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head together. The dual name is the best clue to what's inside: a shop built around both wine and craft beer, set up for browsing bottles, picking up something to pour that night, or just seeing what's new on the shelf.

The Croatan Highway location makes it an easy add-on to a grocery run or a stop on the way back from the beach, since it doesn't require ducking off the main corridor. That kind of convenience matters most during peak season, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when rental houses need restocking and highway traffic makes side trips less appealing. Shoulder season, in April-May or September-October, tends to mean a calmer visit and more time to actually look around the shelves.

Hours can shift with the season on this stretch of the highway, so it's worth calling ahead — (252) 715-3744 — or checking the website before making a special trip, particularly outside the summer months when small shops nearby sometimes adjust their schedules.

Re-opened the store so we could buy a few bottles.

The gentleman pouring wine is super awesome and knowledgeable about his product! Wines were very good. Definitely, a recommend for me!

I'm late in writing this review, but let the fact that even two years after my visit to OBX Winery, I'm here to share about it. My teenage daughter and I stopped in after our visit to Kittyhawk. Obviously, she's not a wine-drinker, so I was the only paying customer. The owner didn't skip a beat and treated us wonderfully. We enjoyed his story, his jokes, snacks, and of course, the wine flight was a journey in itself. Highly recommend!
