Oceanas Bistro sits right on NC-12 in Avon, one of the Hatteras Island villages between Salvo and Buxton, serving bistro fare alongside a full bar seven days a week. Weekday hours run 11am to 9pm, but the doors open earlier on weekends — 8am on both Saturday and Sunday — making it one of the few sit-down breakfast options in Avon before a day out on the water or the beach.

The $$ price range points to moderately priced plates rather than a splurge dinner, and the bar keeps the same hours as the kitchen, closing at 9pm every night of the week. Avon itself is one of the larger stops along Hatteras Island's single highway, with a mix of shops, rentals, and restaurants strung along NC-12, so Oceanas Bistro is easy to find without much of a detour. As with any business on this stretch of road, it's worth calling ahead during hurricane season (June through November), since storm-driven closures on NC-12 can affect hours and access with little notice.

What a great lunch spot! We sat at the bar and had the best time! Super friendly staff and bartender. The food was excellent, oyster po boy, blackened tuna wrap and shrimp basket. Dont miss out on the clam chowder, its hearty!

Oceanas Bistro was absolutely phenomenal! We had a party of 10, and from the moment we walked in, the hostess went above and beyond to accommodate us. She was incredibly sweet, funny, and made us feel so welcome right from the start. Our waitress was outstanding! Even though she was juggling several other tables, she never missed a beat. She stayed on top of drink refills, checked on us often, and made sure everything came out correctly. The level of service was truly impressive. The food was excellent—everyone in our group loved their meals—and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. I actually meant to take pictures but forgot. We ate here on our last night, Out of all the places we had been to all week, I’m so glad we came here, by far the best place around!! If you’re looking for delicious food, outstanding customer service, and a welcoming atmosphere, Oceanas Bistro is definitely worth the visit. We’ll absolutely be back on our next trip.

The atmosphere was cool. It was dive bar- esque. To start we ordered waters with lemon and the water tasted dirty. I ordered the hush puppies which we not very good, and the jerk chicken sandwich. My piece of chicken was incredibly thin as if someone was going to make a chicken cutlet with it, it came with a very small portion of fries. The chicken itself was cooked well but it was by no means jerk chicken. I left very disappointed. Paying $16 dollars for a thin piece of poorly seasoned chicken and a few fries just does not sit right with me. My girlfriend also hated the hush puppies. She got the Avon burger and enjoyed it so thought I should mention that. Someone else in our party got chicken wings with old bay and I had a couple of them and they were good.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the food came out very quickly. The bar is separated from the dining room, but the overall atmosphere was still very loud. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy the food. Some dishes were served over a bed of lettuce that was yellowed and soggy, the flavors were too mild, and the mahi tacos were overcooked. It may not have been the best time to visit late in the week. I appreciate the local staff and service, but based on the food, I probably would not return.

This place is great! We came in just before closing, hoping they would be gracious enough to let us order takeout. They offered to seat us and serve us the whole meal! We did decide to take it to-go, but the service was prompt and very kind. Great atmosphere as well. We ordered a ceasar salad, seafood platter, pasta primavera, and mac and cheese. Everything was delicious and exceeded our expectations, especially the mac and cheese. I feel like mac and cheese is often cheap, boxed, and full of dye—this was an authentic white cheddar sauce with extra cheese on top. Highly recommend!
