We bought the apple ugly, cinnamon roll, coffee, bacon, egg and cheese croissants and the tee shirt! They know how to bake those croissants just as well as they do the apple ugly! The croissants were perfectly crispy with quality bacon egg and delicious cheddar cheese. Go ahead and get the icing on the cinnamon rolls as it is cream cheese based, creamy and delicious without being overly sweet. The Apple ugly really is other worldly. They have a selection of coffees. I mixed a decaf with one of the choices and it was smooth, fresh and I enjoyed it. ** We could have shared any of these items. We didn’t know they were huge. ** I may not ever make it all the way out to Ocracoke again, but I’ll bet I make it back to Buxton!
We stopped by Orange Blossom Bakery & Café and had a bit of a mixed experience. The place definitely has a quaint, charming feel to it, and you can see why it’s popular—but the bakery side felt a little unorganized. It wasn’t always clear what was available, and with a steady flow of people coming in and out, it added to the confusion.
The wait itself wasn’t too long, which was a plus, but drink options were pretty limited. It’s mostly hot drinks or a small cooler with grab-and-go choices—so not a ton of variety there. Seating is also minimal, with no real indoor seating and just a small amount outside, so keep that in mind if you’re hoping to sit and relax.
As for the food, it was good overall. My sandwich did come out incorrect at first, but once it was fixed, it was really tasty and satisfying. So while there were a few hiccups, the quality of the food helped make up for it.
All in all, it was an okay visit. If you’re going specifically for their famous “Ugly Apple” pastry, it’s probably worth the stop—but otherwise, just be prepared for a slightly chaotic experience.
I don’t have a picture of our Apple Ugly because we ate it too fast! This bakery is amazing. The service is friendly and pastries are unmatched. I highly recommend coming and eating the apple ugly hot. It’s worth it! We drove an hour from our beach house just to come and eat this and it was TOTALLY worth it. One fed our family of four (two toddlers) not a ton of seating but we just sat in our car and ate it.
My family and I usually love getting baked goods and sandwiches from this bakery when we visit OBX. I was so excited to finally eat a donut from here today on the last day of our trip, just to find MOLD on both mine and my boyfriend’s donuts ): I’m truly so disappointed. If we had time, I would go back to the bakery, show them, and kindly ask for a refund, but unfortunately we do not so we are leaving here with less money and moldy donuts )):
Great pastries, like the $7 apple ugly huge brain sized apple friitter pie thing. Coffee is ok just typical coffee, for about $3.6 a large. The veggie burrito was ok in texture but it could benefit from more veggies and a different sauce because the current sauce is almost bitter. Wait is about 10 minutes on a Sunday morning. The place is a old small beach building, with some seating on the porch, and gravel parking with gets tight/busy.
