Cajun-style seafood boils on NC-12 in Avon, order-at-the-counter casual

About

Outer Banks Boil Company brings the Cajun-style seafood boil format to Avon: shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage steamed together in a seasoned bag, then dumped out for a casual, hands-on meal instead of a sit-down dinner. It's the low-country-boil-meets-Cajun-seasoning concept that's spread through coastal towns up and down the East Coast in recent years — order at the counter, grab some napkins, and dig in. This location is the Hatteras Island outpost of a small regional boil company, set up in a plaza space right on NC-12 in Avon.

Good to know

  • Located directly on NC-12 in Avon, between Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo to the north and Buxton and Hatteras village to the south.
  • Price range runs moderate ($$) for the format.
  • No hours are listed for this location — check the website or call ahead, since seasonal hours are common for businesses on this stretch of Hatteras Island outside the summer peak.
  • Avon sits along NC-12, the single road connecting all of the Hatteras Island villages within Cape Hatteras National Seashore — a road known to close or wash out during storms, so it's worth checking conditions if you're traveling during hurricane season.

We picked up our seafood boil and brought it home to cook. It was simple and took little time. The seasoning made everything delicious! And I will say, their cocktail sauce is the beat I ever had. It's not a standard Ketchup and horseradish sauce. It was amazing and I need to find out how to get it where I live! Amazing food and will make their seafood boil a traditional dinner on vacation!

Hello, we are visiting from MD. We decided to try out a seafood boil here on an impulse for something different. What a great decision , we met the owner at near closing time and we were greeted with kindness and warmth. The business was immaculate! No fish smell because the seafood is fresh! We tryed a crab pot . It did not disappoint us! Last night we had a family night and popped in again for a few steam pit boils and again this was a hit with everyone! This place is amazing and well worth it !the compliments were awesome. We will be back on another trip! This husband , wife team are really great and conscientious about their business!
