Outer Banks Brewing Station sits right on Croatan Highway in Kill Devil Hills, brewing its own beer and running a full kitchen out of the same building — a combination that's harder to find on this stretch of the northern Outer Banks than you'd think. It's also easy to spot from the road: the brewery runs a wind turbine on site, one of the earlier examples in the country of a working brewery generating some of its own power that way.

Food and beer under one roof

This is a brewery and bar first, with a kitchen built to back it up — seafood, pub fare, and a menu built to hold up after a day at the beach or across a full sit-down dinner. The beer lineup is brewed in-house, so what's on tap changes with what the brewers are running that season.

Open daily starting at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and dinner
Bar and kitchen run until 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday
Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday close at midnight

It's a straightforward stop for a Kill Devil Hills evening — order at the bar, grab a table, and expect a crowd on weekend nights in season.

We sat outside and everything was amazing! The kids played on the pirate boat while we got to enjoy the food. We got the crab, shrimp, and spinach dip which was amazing! It was flavorful and creamy. The pretzels were crunchy and perfect for dipping. We also had the smoked beef brisket and cheese and it was unbelievable. The meat was juicy and tender. There was so much of it. Bread wasn’t soggy and the cheese was a melty! I would come back for this sandwich! This kids got Mac and cheese, which was homemade and very cheesy, and fried fish, fresh and crunchy. They got a fruity drink special. Great place and good food! Best place we ate!

Went in the late afternoon on the 4th of July and had no wait. Their on tap sodas were delicious and food was phenomenal. There was nothing we didn’t like! The house dressing on salad was great and the carrot cake was a must-try!

So to start, as soon as we got here we were told it would be a 20 minute wait. That’s fine, except the place was half empty and they seemed to forget about us for over 45 minutes. In total, it was 2 hours before we got our food. We got here at around 6, our food came at right at 8pm. Mind you, there was only about 3/14 tables even in use in our section. Our server seemed like she meant well, maybe she was frustrated as well, but she didn’t check in on us after bringing some drinks until our food came. She would just stare over and kinda glare at us. I’m a service worker as well, so I get having a bad day or even being upset with your situation. Problem is, the food was not worth a 2 hour wait. I ordered the shrimp and grits. There was no flavor. It came with a gravy that is pretty much the same as that thanksgiving gravy that comes in a jar. It was congealed a bit and a little bit of a textural nightmare. The shrimp weren’t even seasoned, tastes like boiled shrimp on grits with thanksgiving gravy. For some reason there are sweet potato chips that add nothing but a little extra serving of disappointment. I rarely write reviews. I only ever write reviews if it’s either really good or really bad. The most redeeming aspect of dinner was playing cornhole for about 45 minutes with my family while they forgot about us until we came back in. She looked over at us, made a face, and suddenly we heard a ding that our table was ready. If you’re looking for good shrimp and grits, definitely not a place you should go. Especially not for the price. Paying for a premium experience with mediocre service and school lunch level shrimp and grits. Presentation is good though.

We arrived about 2:45 and were seated immediately. Hubby ordered the bangers & mash and hubby loved it. I ordered the pub chopped salad. It was huge and they were generous with the bacon, blu cheese & egg. We split the carrot cake for dessert and we agreed that it was the best carrot cake we’ve ever had. Our waitress was wonderful and kept our drinks filled.

Not terrible, service was a little off but we just came in for a snack and a drink. The pretzel was really good! The carrot cake was delicious.. the candied pecans on it were amazing!
