Outer Banks Distilling is located at 510 Budleigh St in Manteo, on Roanoke Island — reached from the beach towns by crossing the Washington Baum Bridge at Whalebone Junction near Nags Head. Roanoke Island carries a different history than the barrier-island strip to the east: it's the ground of the 1580s Roanoke Colony, whose disappearance remains an open historical question rather than a solved mystery, and Manteo's small downtown wraps around Shallowbag Bay as a walkable, low-key waterfront district rather than an oceanfront strip. That's the setting a visit to the distillery falls into, on an island known first for its history and only secondarily for what's made or sold there today.

Loved our visit! We sampled a variety of drinks and menu items, and everything was amazing. The rum was rich and smooth, and the cocktails were perfectly balanced. Great vibe, attentive service, and an all-around fun experience. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere — we’ll definitely be back! 🥃

I enjoyed our visit and the rum is really good. Sometimes in a tourist area like Manteo / OBX the concept is great but execution isn't. Not at Outer Banks Distilling. We tasted a flight of all their runs. Ended up buying two different bottles. Also, the cocktails are excellent. I had the Mai Tai. Classic recipe, outstanding.

We had such a great time! Ashley did our tasting and was amazing! She even got a treat for our dog, Mokka. Ernie was our bartender and mixed up some delicious drinks. Jamie was super helpful in picking things out and cashing us out. Wonderful experience and bonus it’s dog friendly. Jamie and Ashley were so sweet to our pupper.

One of my favorite distilleries that I have ever visited. I only had a chance to meet and talk with Matt and Scott and they are some of the most personable guys. We talked at length about ideas and projects they had in the works. I am not a huge RUM drinker but every single one of their products that I have tried, I have loved. They take great care in their crafting of Rum and I look forward to catching up with them again many more times as I continue to visit.

Hands down the best Bloody Mary that I have ever had. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our time there.
