Outer Banks Distilling

A working distillery on Roanoke Island, open Tuesday through Saturday in Manteo

About

Outer Banks Distilling is located at 510 Budleigh St in Manteo, on Roanoke Island — reached from the beach towns by crossing the Washington Baum Bridge at Whalebone Junction near Nags Head. Roanoke Island carries a different history than the barrier-island strip to the east: it's the ground of the 1580s Roanoke Colony, whose disappearance remains an open historical question rather than a solved mystery, and Manteo's small downtown wraps around Shallowbag Bay as a walkable, low-key waterfront district rather than an oceanfront strip. That's the setting a visit to the distillery falls into, on an island known first for its history and only secondarily for what's made or sold there today.

The posted schedule runs five days a week:

  • Tuesday–Saturday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed

Beyond hours, address, and phone, the record here doesn't confirm specifics like current offerings, tastings, or tours — call (252) 423-3011 or check outerbanksdistilling.com directly before planning a stop, since that's the most reliable way to know what's on hand day to day.

Outer Banks Distilling and their Kill Devil Rum are top notch! Try a few free samples of the rum, stay for their cocktails. The rum and cocktails are wonderful. Our favorites were the almond and honey rum, the spiced rum (WAY better than Captain Morgan's or any other spices rum), the golden rum, and the select barrel (this one was from peach brandy barrels in 2027). A must visit if you are visiting Manteo, NC. Stop in for a drink, and you can package them to go if you are headed to the Manteo waterfront.

Hands down the best Bloody Mary that I have ever had. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our time there.
