About

Rundown holds a spot right on N Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk, the northern anchor of the three connected beach towns that make up this stretch of the Outer Banks. It's a casual, sit-down restaurant with one of the longer service windows in the area — doors open at 11 a.m. and stay open until 11 p.m., seven days a week, covering lunch, dinner, and a solid chunk of the evening in one continuous run. That kind of stretch is handy this far north: after a day on the beach, out at Jockey's Ridge, or touring the Wright Brothers National Memorial down in Kill Devil Hills, there's still a full dinner service waiting when you get back.

At a $$ price point, it sits in the solid middle of the Kitty Hawk dining scene — more than a quick counter-service stop, less than a special-occasion splurge. The Beach Road corridor location puts it within a short drive of Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head, so it works as an easy pick no matter which of the three towns has your rental.

Me and my girlfriend just spent a week down in the OBX. We went to many restaurants from places in Duck, to Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, and Manteo... This was hands down the best food, service, atmosphere, and experience we had down there; and probably in our lives. First off, everyone is so extremely friendly. Smiles on their faces, saying hello and asking how we were. The food was quick to come out and phenomenal. The Fish Burrito is what I pictured, and it was hands down the best burrito I have had from anywhere. The prices are fair as well, also easy to get in and out of too. We went at 9 P.M. one night and it wasn't even that busy. It's just a quiet place with lots to offer. If you are in the OBX and do not go there, it is a very big mistake. Whenever me and the miss come back down there again, this will be the first place we go to without question. To sell it even further home, I even bought pint glasses from them to always remember them.

We live here and like the upstairs outer deck but service continues to slip. Four people standing around welcomed us but noone even offered a menu for over 15 min after that. Servers stand around, talk with each other and are not attentive at all. Food is decent, nothing to rave about. Umbrella blew over and everyone ignored it for almost 10 min until bartender saw it and came out and fixed it. Just a lot of things that showed staff wasn't engaged. Friendly with each other but a bit dismissive of customers. Have seen this change at the other locations owed by same people
