My husband and I were driving around Hatteras for the day and stopped here for dinner right when they opened at 4 and so glad we did! It was a Saturday and no one was there which was shocking because the food was incredible! We both got the special, my husband got the crab stack and I got the crab topped Mahi and both were sooo good and so were the sauces on top!! Our server Jen was friendly and fun, loved her! The view of the water was beautiful as well and the little shack right there was pretty old school cool đź‘Ť
We had a great experience at Sandbar Grille during our visit, and it ended up being one of our favorite meals on the island. Between the food and the view, it’s hard to beat.
We went big and ordered two massive plates of fried flounder with fries and coleslaw, plus sides of onion rings and rice pilaf, a kids order of chicken tenders with fries, and an Oreo cheesecake for dessert. The portions were seriously impressive—definitely come hungry.
The fried flounder was the star of the show. Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender, flaky on the inside, with a fresh flavor that really stood out. The fries and coleslaw paired well and rounded out the plates nicely. The onion rings were golden and crunchy, and the rice pilaf added a nice change of pace from the fried sides.
The kids chicken tenders were a hit—crispy, well-cooked, and served with plenty of fries. And the Oreo cheesecake was the perfect way to finish everything off—rich, sweet, and worth saving room for.
On top of the food, the view was awesome and really added to the whole experience. It’s one of those spots where you can sit back, enjoy a great meal, and take in the scenery.
Overall, Sandbar Grille delivers big portions, great flavor, and an unbeatable atmosphere. Definitely a spot we’d come back to on our next trip.
Nice little place not far from Avon! The service was great, they were exceptionally attentive! I got the mahi Rockefeller, my wife got the sirloin and scallops. The mahi mahi was delicious, the bacon, spinach cream sauce was incredibly flavorful. However the side of cole slaw I got was just meh, seemed consistent with something from a jar. The onion rings were clearly frozen and just ok at best. The sirloin my wife got should've been medium rare, it was well done and very tough with not much seasoning. The scallops however were perfectly cooked. Would I eat here again? Yes absolutely, id definitely recommend this place to anyone vacationing in obx!!!
Outstanding food, outstanding service and a fun menu. You absolutely cannot beat the view over the Sound in the evening. I’ve been coming here for years to get fresh seafood and it’s our new favorite restaurant on Hatteras.
