Sea Chef Dockside Kitchen

A dockside restaurant near Oregon Inlet, a quiet detour between the Whalebone area and Hatteras Island.

About

Sea Chef Dockside Kitchen sits right on Oregon Inlet Road, a few miles south of Whalebone Junction and just before NC-12 crosses the Marc Basnight Bridge onto Hatteras Island — a genuine dockside stop in a stretch of the Outer Banks with almost no other commercial development. With a 4.7-star rating across nearly 250 reviews, it's built a loyal following despite sitting well outside any of the Outer Banks' main dining clusters in Nags Head or Manteo.

Good to Know

The restaurant's out-of-the-way location — closer to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center and Bodie Island Lighthouse than to any town center — makes it a natural stop for anyone combining a lighthouse visit or a fishing charter with a meal. Being this far from the nearest town, hours can shift seasonally; call ahead or check current listings before making a special trip, especially outside peak summer season.

Fresh local seafood. More than "basic" menu items. We had the crab cake BLT, a Spanish Mackeral Sandwich lettuce wrap (gluten free), french fries, and the brussels sprouts basket. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Food was served quickly and with a smile.

What a lovely restaurant! Delicious food, super friendly and helpful staff, wonderful indoor and outdoor seating. Always nice when the owner and chef comes out to chat and check in on you. Perfect experience all around. Will be back. Tuna steak was absolutely delicious. I tried the fries from other's plates and they were so delicious...perfect fries. I also tried the fries oysters and they were so good.
