in the last week
Nice clean inviting place. Server was nice and attentive. So let’s start with the drinks. The Key Lime Crush was absolutely delicious. I ordered a Grapefruit Mojito and got something else. The waitress said it was a grapefruit crush, even though that’s not on the menu. Oh well. It was tasty but not what I ordered. Onto the apps. The Mac and cheese egg rolls were delicious. A little out of place for the restaurant but were delicious all the same. The calamari was fresh and really good but beware as it’s double spiced. Tossed in a sweet Thai chili sauce then doused in a spicy Sriracha aïoli. Overall very good but much more heat than I normally see with calamari. My daughter ordered the seafood trifecta which was lump crab, scallops, and shrimp in a butter wine sauce. To be honest the dish looked a bit like a hot mess. Very unappealing as the picture shows. Accompanied with a heaping pile of mashed potatoes, which my daughter loved and garlic roasted mixed veggies, which I loved. Fresh onions, zucchini and yellow squash, broccoli, and red and green peppers. My plate was the fried seafood combo with shrimp and haddock. It came with hush puppies and I subbed the garlic roasted veggies for the fries to appear to care about eating healthy tonight. I enjoyed all of my food. The haddock was perfectly fried with a light breading. The shrimp were big and plump as well and not over breaded. Now for the big disappointment. My wife ordered the Huli-Huli chicken with mango salsa and with the sides of black beans and Jasmine rice. The dish was confusing as Huli-Huli chicken is a Hawaiian dish and black beans are not. Regardless, the chicken was large portion but there was no Huli-Huli sauce. It was basically a grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce. The black beans and rice were big portions but both were extremely bland. Pretty sure the beans were canned. We lived in Hawaii for five years and that’s not Hulu-Huli chicken. She was very unhappy with her meal. So a mixed bag but overall a pretty good experience. I guess when on the OBX stick with fresh seafood and burgers and beer! Can’t go wrong with either.
