Shipwrecks Taphouse & Grill sits on N Croatan Hwy in Kitty Hawk, right along the main corridor that runs the length of the northern Outer Banks beach towns. It's built around exactly what the name promises: a taphouse pour list backed by a grill menu, the kind of place suited to a casual lunch stop or an easy dinner after a day on the sand rather than a dress-up night out.
Kitty Hawk anchors the north end of this beach-town strip, close enough to the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills to make a natural stop before or after visiting. The later closing time on Fridays and Saturdays makes it a reasonable option for a weekend dinner, and the Tuesday closure is worth noting if you're planning around it. Given the taphouse format, expect a bar-forward atmosphere — a good fit if you want a beer list and a grill menu rather than a formal sit-down meal. As with most of this stretch, weekday visits during shoulder season (April-May, September-October) tend to be calmer than the peak summer months, when the corridor gets busy with beach traffic.

Our family of five enjoyed Mothers Day lunch at Shipwrecks!! Special of the day was Hot Honey Soft Shell Crabs over gouda cheese grits,w/ Andoulle sausage. Peppers & Onions.....VERY GOOD!!. Filet Oscar was on point!! Fried chicken special was great!! Everything includuding the SERVICE was great! We will be back again soon!! Update: Back again for another great meal with family and outdoor seating on their front porch!

Had a great visit to Shipwrecks before the summer crowds arrive. Had great service from Nicki who was attentive, friendly and efficient throughout out 3 hour visit. We visited for a combo of lunch specials and “Happy Hour” for food special from 2-5pm everyday. The very large steamed shrimp are $10/lb. Wow! So good. Also had chili, hot dogs, grilled cheese, Asian salad, wings and an appetizer sampler platter and all were hot and fresh. Definitely stop by when in the OBX.

Mixed experience here. Server was great, huskies hushpuppies were the best, but the broiled flounder was weird and almost mealy in texture, and floating in heavy grease with too much salt. I was really looking forward to it, and very disappointed. The crab cakes were also not as good as I had hoped, with more breading than lump crab. My son said his fries were also too salty-- I don't think he's ever said that in his life! -- and he didn't finish them. Finally, the corn in the corn salad was legit raw. That's okay if that's what you're expecting, but I was not expecting that. Server was great and the beer selection was also good. I wish we were going back to OBX soon and we could give this place another try.

We waited a long time before a server came and helped us. I don't think we were even her table. But, she was awesome 😎 Ask for Nikki if you go. The food was fantastic 💯 😎

Great waitress, friendly and attentive. Pretty good food, and atmosphere was comfortable. Crab cakes were really good. The shrimp patty/burger was a hit with our family. Only thing missing was a better dessert menu.
