T.L.'s Family Restaurant

Breakfast at six, dinner platters through nine — family-style cooking on Roanoke Island

About

T.L.'s Family Restaurant is a family-style spot on US-64 in Manteo, on Roanoke Island — built around early starts rather than a water view. Doors open at 6 a.m. every day of the week, putting it in step with anyone getting a jump on the day, from watermen starting early to contractors on their way to a job site.

The $$ price range and family-style label point toward a straightforward, home-style menu rather than a dressed-up dining experience. The kitchen runs long most of the week — 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday — covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner in one stretch. Sunday is shorter, closing at 2 p.m., a common pattern for family-style kitchens that treat Sunday as a half-day.

  • Monday–Saturday: 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Sunday: 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

It sits apart from the walkable blocks around Shallowbag Bay that most visitors picture as downtown Manteo — a reminder that Roanoke Island's everyday dining extends beyond the harbor district and onto the highway corridor that carries most traffic on and off the island.

Delicious! We were stuck in the traffic coming from Avon this morning and were starving, so glad we saw the sign and stopped in for brunch. Very yummy food.

This was our first visit. We stopped in for breakfast. The place was packed! It is a favorite for many of the locals and I can see why... very good food for very good prices. The servers were very nice and accommodating! They refer to their place as a "greasy spoon" but take that in the best sense possible! Give this place a try!!

Extremely friendly service from a place where the wait staff made me feel like family & you could tell they knew the regulars by name. The tuna melt that I had was made with locally sourced tuna & is one of the best I've ever had.
