Tap That OBX

Kitty Hawk's easygoing bar for cold drafts and no fuss, just steps off Beach Road

About

Tap That OBX sits along N Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk, on the same Beach Road corridor that carries traffic south through Kill Devil Hills and into Nags Head. It's a straightforward, budget-friendly bar built around what the name promises: beer on tap, kept casual and unpretentious.

Kitty Hawk anchors the north end of that strip, close to where the Wright brothers made their first flights in 1903 (technically just south in Kill Devil Hills, though "Kitty Hawk" is the name most people know the story by). That puts Tap That OBX in easy reach for anyone staying oceanside in Kitty Hawk or driving down from the northern end of the beach for a change of scenery. The $ price point keeps a round of drinks affordable, and the setting reads low-key rather than a scene — a place to grab a beer, not a production.

  • Casual bar, categorized as a brewery & bar
  • Budget-friendly $ price range
  • Located on N Virginia Dare Trail (Beach Road) in Kitty Hawk
  • Open Thursday through Sunday, per posted hours

Call ahead at (252) 489-8074 before making a special trip — hours on this stretch of the beach can shift with the season.

Tap That OBX has local dive bar vibes with great service and an amazing selection! Not only do they have a great craft selection, their bourbon selection is top notch! They also have a game room, but I came for the drinks. If you're in Kill Devil Hills area of OBX, definitely check out Tap That!

We had never heard of Tap That and our friends were in OBX for St Patricks Day Weekend. They told us to meet them there. I am so glad we did, We had the best time and absolute most fun of any place we have been. Granted it was packed, we played music bingo, met the owners though it was busy they met many people that night. They are dog friendly. Tap That is a must if your visiting the Outer Banks on NC.

We found this on Google Reviews when we were looking for a bar that would accept dogs. They even let you bring them inside! I found my new favorite Sour and Shelley was amazing! She is so inviting and she chatted with us and we got to learn some interesting things about the island. If we were staying closer, we probably would come here every night! They also offer Popcorn to their guests for free on certain nights! Popcorn & Beer = my happy place!

Awesome spot for drinks, games, and special live entertainment / live games such as trivia, music bingo, and karaoke. Super friendly staff and great variety of drinks. They also have pizza available.

We went as a group for music bingo (get there early!) Small place with limited parking but the staff was really great and the music bingo was SO fun! The ladies room was well kept which I appreciated also.
