Tavern on 12 sits directly on NC-12 in Frisco, the small Hatteras Island village between Buxton and Hatteras village, inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It's a moderately priced ($$) restaurant — the kind of straightforward, sit-down option worth knowing about if you're based anywhere along this end of the island and don't want to drive back up toward the lighthouse or down to the ferry docks just to eat.

Frisco is a quieter stop than Buxton to its north, with fewer dining options overall, which makes a restaurant serving lunch through dinner six days a week a genuinely useful anchor for the village. It's also a reasonable stop before or after time on the Frisco Campground trails or a day on the ORV beach ramps nearby.

NC-12 is the only road linking Frisco to the rest of Hatteras Island, and it closes during storms with some regularity — worth building slack into your plans if you're visiting during hurricane season (June–November), or calling ahead to confirm hours around a forecasted storm.

Oh my goodness! We came here on a recommendation from a local and they did not disappoint! Our server (Savannah?) was so nice and helpful, and oh my goodness the food was the best I have had on the outer banks, and for the best price too! We had the clear broth clam chowder (which is dairy free!) and it was soooo good! They had a drum fish sandwich special and if you haven't had drum before, it is a must try! It's a fish local to the outer banks, and it's buttery and delicious (we had ours fried). We went back for dinner again the same day because we were hoping to have the drum sandwich again, but they had run out (not surprised!). Their shrimp po boy was also delicious, as was their Southern style egg rolls (they had pork, collards, and beans, served with BBQ sauce!) were also so good! Thank you for a wonderful memory and we will definitely visit next time we are in the outer banks!

We got the shrimp pasta and tuna steaks with some mojitos and everything was fantastic! Food came out hot, fresh and delicious. Portions were extremely generous. You will not leave hungry. Service was amazing! Everyone was so kind and helpful.

My fiancé and I went here on a Saturday near the end of August around 7:30pm and we were able to get a table for two right away. We split the trashcan nachos which are the best nachos I’ve ever had! Soo good. The Alabama getaway sandwich was delicious & my fiancé said that his pulled pork sandwich was also delicious. The fries were great too! The atmosphere is laid back, it’s a little small inside but there is outdoor seating too, it was a little loud but we were still able to hold a conversation. We will make this a go-to place every year! Highly recommend!!

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Talented and friendly bartender. Delicious drinks and food. Nice bar area to wind down in the evening. Highly recommend and we will be back. Very fair pricing for great selection of entrees, as well as daily specials.

Fantastic food! Great dog friendly restaurant with amazing tuna tacos. The coconut cream pie was unreal! We’ll be back, thanks Brandy!
