The Local is a restaurant in Corolla, on the northern end of the Outer Banks past the core-beaches towns to the south. Corolla is where the paved road eventually runs out — NC-12 threads through the town's historic district, past the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Whalehead Club, before the pavement stops and the beach itself becomes the road north into the 4x4-only communities.

As with most dining in Corolla, expect the pace to shift with the calendar. Peak season, Memorial Day through Labor Day, brings a steady flow of vacationers renting cottages along the beach road, and tables can be harder to come by. Shoulder season — April and May, then September into October — is a genuinely good stretch to visit: fewer crowds, easier parking, and a slower overall rhythm. Hurricane season runs June through November, with the higher-risk window from August into October, so it's worth checking conditions if you're planning a late-summer trip.
