Tortugas Lie is a brewery and bar on Beach Road in Nags Head — the oceanfront road officially known as S Virginia Dare Trail, running close to the sand through the northern Outer Banks beach towns. It's built around beer and bar food rather than a formal dinner menu, the sort of place to duck into after a day at the beach for a cold drink and something to eat before heading back out.

Sundays are the one day it's closed, worth building into weekend plans since it's easy to assume a Beach Road bar runs all seven days. The rest of the week it stays open from late morning through the evening, a reasonable stop coming straight off the beach or after dinner somewhere else nearby. Call ahead at (252) 441-7299 to confirm current hours, especially during the shoulder-season months of April, May, September, and October, when hours along this stretch can shift.

Woo Hoo! My kind of restaurant! When we arrived with no reservation..LOL! We were told that the wait was over an hour but we could go out back to wait. Smart move~ We played corn hole, sat on the picnic benches and had a GREAT time. The drinks were spot on. Once inside, we were seated in a corner and proceeded to thoroughly enjoy ourselves. I had a fantastic turkey sandwich and steamed shrimp ( my fav) . Everyone loved their meals...but, the pies were the happy ending! They have the most delicious coconut cream pie I have ever eaten. It is NOT a traditional coconut cream pie, but the best I have ever had, ever. Next year, we will eat there twice!

The food here is just hands down amazing. The burgers are cooked perfect and are so flavorful. The fish tacos are some of the best I have ever had. Fun atmosphere, great service!
