Uglie Mugs Coffee House is a small coffee-and-bakery counter right on NC-12 in Avon, one of the villages strung along Hatteras Island inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It opens early — 7 a.m. every day of the week — a good match for the island's rhythm of anglers headed out at first light and the windsurfing and kiteboarding crowd this stretch of the Outer Banks is known for.

We got two different lattes and they were the tastiest in the area 😍 There are a lot of cool paintings of local artists are sold in here. There are also a compuer and a printer for customers. And overall the interior was very beautiful, inluding uglie mugs 😁

The coffee was good and the pastry was okay, however for a place that markets itself so heavily on its artsy origins, it is an incredibly bad look to be allowing someone to pedal AI generated slop on printer paper for hundreds of dollars right next to someone's actual art - it cheapened the entire experience and really disappointed me. How a business founded by an actual artist can allow something like this, I cannot fathom.

Genuinely the best little spot in Avon, by far my favorite in all of OBX. I visit Avon every year and keep coming back here (often times multiple times per day). Amazing people work here (my favorite part about this spot), the coffee is the best, tons of beautiful prints for sale by local artists - I could go on but Uglie Mugs simply cannot be beat. Small, local coffee shop with lots of choices. The pumpkin pie chai latte was delicious. We usually take ours back to our rental or with us for a walk on the beach, but they do have some seating. We go multiple times on each vacation trip.

This place is amazing! We stayed in Hatteras and this quickly became a daily stop for us. They have excellent lattes and they also have smoothies and local art for purchase too. Sometimes the wait to get coffee was long but the taste was always worth it. We ended up going 5 times before we left. My favorite latte I tried was the wired monkey!
