Uncle Ike's Sandbar & Grill

A Corolla bar and grill built for settling in over drinks, open daily except Sunday

About

Uncle Ike's Sandbar & Grill sits on Austin Street in Corolla, run as a bar-and-grill where the drink menu carries as much weight as the kitchen — its listing category is brewery and bar, and the late hours on several nights back that up. At a moderate $$, it's priced in line with most casual Corolla spots, and the name itself signals the kind of easygoing, sandbar-style hangout it's going for rather than a formal sit-down room.

Hours

  • Closed Sundays
  • Open the rest of the week starting at 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday run until 2 a.m.; Monday and Friday close at midnight

That schedule puts it among the later options on this end of the Outer Banks once dinner crowds thin out elsewhere in Corolla. It's a different kind of stop than the historic-district cluster around the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Whalehead Club, and different again from the soundside boardwalk scene a few miles south in Duck — this is a straightforward neighborhood bar and grill for a drink and something to eat, not a destination attraction in its own right. Call ahead at (252) 597-1606 or check the website before heading over, since exact offerings can shift season to season on this stretch of the island.

Definitely overpriced for the quality. We had 4 adult meals and 2 meals off the kids menu plus drinks and spent $350. Would not recommend at all. The staff was not friendly.

Waited for over an hour before receiving half of our meal. Food was decent, but very small, especially compared to the price. Groups arriving nearly 30 minutes after us received their meals before us. Service was unfrequent and mediocre. Just go to Cosmo’s right across the way…

Went for Karoke. Food was great however the bartenders were terrible. They completely ignored patrons and were just generally rude. The entire evening was a really bad experience. Worst part of our vacation.
