About

Watermen's Bar & Grill is a casual bar and grill on NC-12 in Waves, one of the three villages — Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo — strung together along the northern half of Hatteras Island. The name nods to the working-waterman heritage of these villages, and the place carries that same unpretentious energy: a full bar, casual pub-style food, and a laid-back atmosphere built more for locals, anglers, and travelers passing through than for a dressed-up night out.

Good to Know

  • Address: 25706 NC Highway 12, Waves, NC
  • Phone: (252) 987-2000
  • Price range: $$
  • Closed on Sundays

Like most everything on Hatteras Island, hours and availability can shift with the season and with NC-12 itself — the road connecting every village here is prone to washouts and storm closures, especially during hurricane season (roughly June through November). It's worth a quick call before making a special trip, particularly outside peak summer months.

We’ve been in Rodanthe a week and this by far is the best place we’ve eaten (price, quality and diversity of menu, taste) and best atmosphere (live music) and has the best view. Shout out to the people at Waves Market and Deli for telling us about this place. The service as great and the young servers were polite and efficient. You order at the counter and food is brought to you. I’d get there early like 5:30 to beat the crowd or come later to see the sunset. My favorite place so far while here! I had the crab cake sandwich was amazing served with a delicious and healthy black bean salad. My husband had a good shrimp quesadilla.

Food was good. Ribs were delicious, prime rib just ok, crab cakes just ok, fish was done perfectly. The ambiance was wonderful. I loved just waiting in line to order then sitting down. Takes a load off the severe and helps keep the wait and unknown down . Go in time to grab a table before sunset and watch the sunset while eating.

Great place! Service was warm, attentive and quick. The food was REALLY good. I had the fresh blackened tuna med rare with crab on top with the citrus slaw and tortillas. It was a wonderful combo! Others in my party had the buffalo chicken burrito and chicken quesadillas. The view was wonderful. I would definitely go back.

Amazing spot! Order at the window and it comes to your seat. Everything we had was outstanding! Highlights included the Tuna and apps! Drinks were all very tasty as well. Can’t beat the views either!!!

The sunset and kite surfing views here are amazing and the food was pretty good! They have a kids menu, no chicken fingers (just FYI in case your kid is like one of mine and that's all they will eat). The counter service guy seemed completely miserable but the guy who brought our food out to our table was so friendly!! The food came out quick and the kids enjoyed playing on the grassy area watching the surfers while we all ate at the picnic tables. What a nice spot!
