Waves Market & Deli
The everyday market and deli stop in Waves for sandwiches, snacks, and cooler restocks
About
Waves Market & Deli sits directly on NC-12 in Waves, one of the three closely grouped villages — Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo — on the northern stretch of Hatteras Island within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It's a straightforward, multi-purpose stop: sandwiches, snacks, drinks, and the kind of everyday items that matter more on a narrow barrier island where options are spread thin along a single road. With a $ price range and hours running 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week, it fits easily into a beach-day schedule — early enough to grab something on the way to the sand, open late enough to restock a cooler after dinner.
Small markets like this one are a fixture of daily life in the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo villages, where NC-12 is the only route in or out and communities lean on a handful of flexible, do-it-all businesses. They're especially useful if you're staying in one of the area's vacation rentals and need to fill in gaps between grocery runs. Call ahead if you're timing a stop around something specific, since hours at small island markets can shift seasonally.

Did not purchase any food. But the employee was extremely nice and conversational. Also shared the offerings from the deli. Not pushy, just sharing what they had to offer and what was popular. Will definitely be back to try something.
