About

Equine Adventures is a horseback-riding tour operator on Piney Ridge Road in Frisco, one of the Hatteras Island villages inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore, sitting between Buxton and Hatteras village near the maritime forest of the Buxton Woods Coastal Reserve, not far from Frisco Campground and its beach-access trails.

Like the rest of the island, Frisco is reached by NC-12, the single road connecting Hatteras Island's villages — one that can close temporarily during storms, so it's worth checking conditions before visiting during hurricane season (June through November).

This listing doesn't include specifics on rides, pricing, or schedule, so call (252) 995-4897 or check the operator's website for current tour offerings before you plan a trip.

I would give a ZERO if I could. I had one of the most boring miserable horseback riding experiences I’ve ever paid for. Most the ride was single‑file “follow the leader,” and you barely get to do anything beyond a slow walk. Once on beach I was allowed to canter for less than 60 seconds that was the only moment that felt like actual riding. This place is really only suited for people with little to no riding experience. If you have experience or want anything beyond a slow trail walk, you will be disappointed. They also take photos when you’re already sweaty, which makes the pictures pretty useless. It felt more like a rushed add‑on than something meant to capture a good moment. From my experience the trainer, Kayla, was RUDE and like a drill sergeant. The whole experience felt overly controlled, rushed, and not enjoyable at all. I will never come back and will tell anyone to avoid this place unless you’re perfectly fine with a slow, single‑file walk and a very boring time. If you want a real horseback riding experience on the beach where you can actually have fun (within reason) and be treated respectfully, go to Outer Banks – OBX Horseback instead. They know what they’re doing and offer a much better time.

It was an amazing experience! The staff members were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the ride started right on time. My horse, Pumbaa, was perfect for me! Even though the staff said he was a little lazy, lol 😆, he seemed to know exactly what pace was best for me. Bonnie was the perfect horse for my boyfriend. We both had such a wonderful experience and truly enjoyed the ride! 🐴❤️

We really enjoyed our ride! As a former trail ride guide, I felt like it was a ride I would want my guests to have. Highly recommend Equine Adventures. They even let us (me) hit 3rd gear for a few minutes which totally made the ride for me! Awesome time was had by all of us.
