First Street Beach Access
A no-fuss public crossover from Beach Road to the Atlantic in Kill Devil Hills
About
First Street Beach Access sits right on N Virginia Dare Trail — Kill Devil Hills' Beach Road — and does exactly what a numbered-street beach access is built for: a straight shot from the road to the sand without a hotel key or a rental house in the way. It's one of the public crossovers that make up the town's beach-access network, the kind of spot residents and visitors use for a quick swim, a sunrise walk, or just parking the car and heading east toward the water for an hour.
- Public, walk-up access — no fee, no reservation
- Directly oceanfront on the Atlantic side of Beach Road in Kill Devil Hills
- Beach driving isn't allowed on this stretch of the northern Outer Banks — that's a Hatteras Island thing, well south of here
- Quietest in the early morning or during shoulder season (April–May, September–October), before the Memorial Day-through-Labor Day crowds settle in
Since it's an access point rather than a business, don't expect posted hours or a website — it's simply open to the beach, same as the ocean itself.
