Oregon Avenue Public Beach Access

A quiet, local's-pace way onto the sand off Beach Road in Kill Devil Hills

(5)
Kill Devil Hills, NC

About

Oregon Avenue is one of the numbered cross streets running east off Croatan Highway through Kill Devil Hills toward the ocean, and its public access point is a straightforward way onto the beach without the parking-lot scramble that comes with the town's bigger, better-known accesses. It's the kind of spot regulars use instead of circling for a space near the busier stretches of Beach Road.

There's not much to describe beyond the basics: open beach, Atlantic Ocean straight ahead, part of the same continuous shoreline that runs the length of Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, and Kitty Hawk. As with the rest of this stretch of the Outer Banks, beach driving isn't allowed here — that's strictly a Hatteras Island thing much further south — so plan to walk in on foot.

  • Useful if you're staying in the neighborhood around Oregon Avenue and want beach access without getting in the car
  • Peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) brings the heaviest foot traffic; spring and fall visits are noticeably quieter
  • No restroom or shower facilities are documented for this access, so treat it as a walk-up spot rather than assuming amenities

Finally public beach access parking that doesn't cost anything! About a dozen spots, 1 handicapped spot, 2 shower/foot wash stations, and only a couple hundred feet to the water.

Lovely beach, nice family atmosphere. All around beautiful place. Will definitely be visiting again in the future🤍

Super-easy beach access here. Using East Meadowlark Street as a starting point, the walk is just under 5 minutes.
