I decided to make a pit stop and to my surprise, I parked and on display is the record breaking Marlin caught July 28, 1983. Look how big that fish is! I went up the stairs and was a greeted by 2 friendly ladies who gave me brochures and now I have an unfinished scavenger hunt to do which I intend to finish at some point. I walked around the Welcome Center and I learned the history of the area from the native tribes of the Croatoan to the Pirates and fisherman including many lighthouses and record breaking ship wrecks throughout. I also learned the Wright Brothers flying their plane which caused a big technological innovation that has shaped our future for many years to come. You start to realize there is so much to see no matter who big or small!

It's a nice rest stop. The bathroom was clean. I was surprised there wasn't a sign to send messages or feedback to the visitors center / rest area. I thought it was sad that the bathroom didn't have human trafficking information. Most of the other ones do it throughout the country. The walk to the restroom isn't too far, but there are parts that are dark. The first Parr when you pull in has three handicap spots. Which are right in front of the ramp. It wasn't clear there that there is additional parking on the other side of the building. I was greatly annoyed that all of the tourist brochures are locked up in the visitor center building. If I wanted them I would have to come back at 9 am. I wish they were more accessible. The parking lot is pretty clean. There was a lot of trash on the ground in front of the trash can. The can wasn't overflowing, so I'm sure not sure if someone threw trash in the ground in front of the trash can. I tried to take as many pics as I could. Overall, it is a nice visitor center/rest stop. The three are because of the human trafficking sign. The poorly lit walkway. Lacking in signs for the handicapped. Finally, because I was unable to get resources or guide books for the area.
