Pretty Lookout

A quiet vantage point on Silver Lake Harbor, right in the heart of Ocracoke village

About

Pretty Lookout is a small waterside vantage point on Silver Lake Harbor, the historic anchorage at the center of Ocracoke village. It's a simple stop for taking in the boats moored around the harbor and getting your bearings before setting off to explore the rest of the village.

Getting to Ocracoke is part of the experience of visiting: the free, roughly hour-long NC ferry connects from Hatteras village, while longer toll ferries run from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter on the mainland (both about 2.25 hours). Once you're in the village, Pretty Lookout sits an easy walk from Springer's Point and the harborfront, and it's a natural stop on the way to NC-12 north toward the fenced pasture where Ocracoke's wild ponies are kept.

There's no facility or posted hours here — it's an open, unstaffed spot on the water, not a formal attraction. Plan on a few quiet minutes with a camera rather than a full stop on the itinerary.

Sunsets. Nice place to visit for quiet on the island. Might not be the case during tourist season. Enjoy!
