Sutton Avenue marks one of Kill Devil Hills' public beach accesses along Virginia Dare Trail — the oceanfront road locals just call Beach Road, lined with the weathered-shingle cottages that give this stretch of the northern Outer Banks its look. There's no admission, no gate, just a walkover from the road to open Atlantic sand, making it a straightforward stop for anyone staying nearby without a private beach path of their own.

This is a no-frills access point rather than a full beach park, so come prepared: the listing has no attached facilities on record, so treat it as sand-and-surf only and plan accordingly if you need restrooms, showers, or food nearby. Parking along Beach Road is tight by design — a handful of spots at best — and fills fast on summer weekends and holidays, so early mornings or a walk/bike from a nearby rental is the more reliable play in peak season. Like anywhere on this stretch of coast, keep an eye on surf conditions and rip current risk before wading in past the shallows, and note that off-road beach driving isn't permitted in Kill Devil Hills — that's strictly a Hatteras Island thing further south. As I parked into the lot, there was parking due to the temperature being in the 70s, so when it gets warmer, I strongly suggest get it the parking spots while there is limited spot. With that said, keep an eye on the signs that are displayed. At certain times of the year birds are nesting and sea turtles are are also laying their eggs. Be respectful to the wildlife and when you done with your garbage make sure to throw it away. Sea Turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and they choke. We don't want that to happen. With that said, enjoy the white sandy beach and the tides that roll in. If your looking for a beach in the Outer Banks, look no further!

This isn't a huge lot but has a decent amount of parking spaces. There's 2 public showers that include lower spouts for your feet. There's a post with a lot of useful beach info. There's also a trash and recycling bin. The lot is paved as well which helps with not getting sand right back on you after showering. There's a wooden bridge for quick beach access - great for not having to walk over the sand dunes but the stairs don't make it great for carts or wheel chairs. There's also a convenience store nearby within walking distance.

A nice close access point to the beach. Parking for about 45 vehicles. No bathrooms, dogi pot station & trash can at the walk bridge entrance.

Convenient beach location with. Dry short walk to the beach from parking. It’s also a quieter section of beach than by the bath house parking lot. Nice place to enjoy the water with your dog.
