Robbie’s Way

A quiet stretch along Silver Lake Harbor, right in the heart of Ocracoke village

About

Robbie's Way sits just off Silver Lake Dr, a short walk from the docks that ring Silver Lake Harbor — the historic anchorage that has anchored Ocracoke village since long before the lighthouse went up in 1823. It's an easy stretch to fold into a walk around the harbor, close to the shops, docks, and charter boats that cluster along the waterfront.

Because Ocracoke has no bridge or road connection, everyone who walks this path arrived by boat or small plane — the free NC ferry from Hatteras village (about an hour), the longer toll ferries from Cedar Island or Swan Quarter (roughly 2.25 hours each), or a flight into the island's small airstrip. That distance is part of what keeps the pace here unhurried.

Ocracoke Library's Story Walk at Robbie's Way, a 15' wide access from Silver Lake drive to the shores of Pamlico Sound. It was deeded to the Ocracoke Preservation Society in 2000 by Robbie Runyon in memory of her frequent walks to watch the sunset in this spot across from her island home.
