About

Rodanthe Pier Place is a fishing pier reaching out into the Atlantic from the village of Rodanthe, on the narrower, more exposed northern end of Hatteras Island within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It's open early and stays open late, making it a straightforward stop for surf and pier anglers working the pilings from sunrise through after-dark hours.

Getting There

Rodanthe, along with the neighboring villages of Waves and Salvo, sits on a stretch of the Outer Banks more exposed to storms than the beaches to the north. NC-12 is the only road connecting these villages to the rest of Hatteras Island, and it floods or closes during storms with some regularity — a real, ongoing feature of life here rather than a rare event. That risk is highest during hurricane season, June through November, with the most active stretch from August through October. Check current road and weather conditions before making the trip out to the pier.

We had been fishing all week on our ritual vacation trip to OBX Rodanthe area. This is the very first time that we decided to go fishing at the pier. We were happy we made the choice. Price was reasonable and the fact that we could fish from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. was good we were able to take a break and come back later that night and go hunting for bigger stuff. My brother and cousin had larger hooks on their poles as we all were trying to hunt bigger fish but my son & i also had smaller poles with smaller Hooks and kept yanking stuff out of the water keeping us distracted and not bored. Very fun pier to fish from. Would definitely come back next year on a mission to yank something big out that water
