Rodanthe Sunset Retreat

Rodanthe Sunset Retreat is a condominium rental community on NC Highway 12 in Rodanthe, the northernmost of the three closely grouped villages — Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo — that anchor the north end of Hatteras Island. Units in the community are booked through First Flight Rentals, a longtime Outer Banks property management company, and the property sits within Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the protected barrier-island parkland that runs the length of the island.

Getting here means crossing the Marc Basnight Bridge over Oregon Inlet, and from there NC-12 is the only road connecting Rodanthe to the rest of Hatteras Island. It's worth building some slack into travel plans: the highway closes periodically during storms, a real and recurring feature of this narrower, more exposed stretch of the Outer Banks, especially during the August-through-October window of hurricane season. Shoulder season, April-May and September-October, tends to bring quieter beaches and easier driving. From Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, and Hatteras village are all a straightforward run south on NC-12.
