Attraction near Southern Shores
Sound View Park sits on North Dogwood Trail in Southern Shores, a soundside community park built around picnicking and quiet water access rather than the ocean beach a few blocks east. A playground, picnic tables, a charcoal grill, a bocce ball court, and a horseshoe pit sit near the parking area, with a kayak launch and a small stretch of sandy shoreline giving direct access to Currituck Sound.
It's a low-key spot for a picnic, a kayak or paddleboard put-in, or watching the sun set over the sound — the water here is calm and shallow compared to the ocean side, making it a comfortable pick for young kids. A separate sunset-viewing platform sits nearby, also on North Dogwood Trail, for anyone who wants a bench and a water view without the picnic gear.

Nice place for the kids to play on some old-fashioned swings and even a seesaw that my granddaughters loved. Great place for photos by the bay, and only the mosquitoes made it a bit uncomfortable. Prepare with bug spray and get ready for some photos with your family and a beautiful sunset in the background!

The park is small and quaint but the view is very pretty. The landscape is tiered towards the water and I'm sure you could go out in the water if you so choose...it was cold the day I was here so I wasn't about to try it but I didn't see any signs prohibiting anyone from doing so. Cute little place to bring a blanket and a picnic basket for a sweet lunch with your significant other.
