Wind Over Waves Community Boat Ramp (Private)

A private, residents-only boat launch on Salvo's soundside — not a public access point

About

Wind Over Waves is a private community boat ramp on Otter Way in Salvo, one of the three closely grouped villages — Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo — reached via the Marc Basnight Bridge over Oregon Inlet. Unlike the National Park Service's numbered beach-access ramps that line NC-12 for ORV and pedestrian entry to the ocean beach, this is a soundside launch built for residents of the Wind Over Waves community to put boats, kayaks, and paddleboards onto Pamlico Sound rather than the Atlantic side of the island.

There's no public parking, posted hours, phone line, or visitor amenities tied to this address, and nothing about it suggests open access for travelers passing through Salvo — it functions as private infrastructure for a residential community rather than a stop on an Outer Banks itinerary. Anyone looking to launch a boat on the sound side of Hatteras Island should plan on a public ramp or outfitter elsewhere in the area; this entry is included mainly for orientation, not as an invitation to use the facility.

We stay in Kite Runner every year. We love it. 10/10 would recommend. Just be prepared since the stores are quite far.
