Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead
The starting point for a short walk through Hatteras Village Park
About
Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead marks the start of a walking trail inside Hatteras Village Park, on Eagle Pass Rd in Hatteras village, at the southern end of Hatteras Island. The village sits within Cape Hatteras National Seashore, just off NC-12 — the single road connecting all of Hatteras Island's villages — and is the departure point for the free NC ferry to Ocracoke Island.
There's no listed phone, website, or posted hours for the trailhead, so it's worth checking locally before you plan a visit. Like the rest of Hatteras Island, this stretch depends on NC-12 staying open; the road can close during storms, particularly in the August-October stretch of hurricane season, so it's worth checking conditions if you're headed this way then.
Best Time to Visit Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead
Access to Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead depends on NC-12 staying open, since it's the single road connecting Hatteras village to the rest of Hatteras Island. NC-12 can close during storms, particularly in the August–October stretch of hurricane season, so it's worth checking road conditions before heading this way during those months. Outside of storm season, there's no posted seasonal schedule or best-time recommendation on file for the trailhead itself, so plan your visit around road conditions rather than around a specific time of year.
Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead Tips
- There's no listed phone number, website, or posted hours for Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead — check locally in Hatteras village for current information before planning a visit.
- Because Hatteras village is also the departure point for the NC ferry to Ocracoke Island, a stop at the trailhead pairs naturally with a ferry-bound visit to the village rather than requiring a special trip of its own.
Getting to Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead
The trailhead is on Eagle Pass Rd in Hatteras village, at the southern end of Hatteras Island. Reach it via NC-12, the single road connecting all of Hatteras Island's villages, then turn onto Eagle Pass Rd within the village to reach Hatteras Village Park. Hatteras village also serves as the departure point for the NC ferry to Ocracoke Island, so if your trip continues south, this same village is where that ferry route begins. Since Eagle Pass Rd sits inside the village itself, no separate backcountry access point or trailhead parking area is described beyond the park location.
What to Expect at Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead
Sea Breeze Trail Trailhead marks the start of a walking trail inside Hatteras Village Park in Hatteras village, which sits within the boundaries of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Beyond marking the start of the walk, there's little else documented about the trail itself — no mileage, terrain, or trail description is on file, so this reads more as a village park amenity than a signed backcountry route. Treat a visit here as a casual stop tied to exploring Hatteras village rather than a destination hike with known stats.

Lovely little loop trail. Beware that it starts and ends in mosquito land! If there is sun and a breeze the back half at the water can be bug free ( it was on 8/31/24). Lovely chance to take a short walk on Hatteras Island. But we raced through the woods to get out of the very aggressive mosquitos there.
