The trailhead sits at the park's separate Soundside Access, off West Soundside Road on the sound side of the barrier island — not the main Carolista Drive/Beach Road entrance where the dune climb starts. It's a self-guided, 0.6-mile loop rated easy by NC State Parks, and it's a genuinely different landscape than the open sand out front: the route moves through several distinct coastal habitats before opening onto the calm, shallow water of the sound. Leashed dogs are welcome.

It's an easy add-on for anyone already visiting Jockey's Ridge who wants a break from dune-climbing, and a good pick for families or casual walkers looking for a short, easy nature walk instead of a slog through soft sand.
