About

Avon Pier & RV Resort sits on NC-12 in Avon, one of the strung-out villages of Hatteras Island within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The name points to what's nearby: Avon's fishing pier, a long-standing landmark for surf anglers working this stretch of the Outer Banks.

Location on Hatteras Island

As an RV park and campground, it serves as a stopping point along the island's single road, NC-12, for travelers heading toward Buxton and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to the south or toward the Marc Basnight Bridge and the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo to the north. Avon's stretch of Hatteras Island is also within reach of some of the numbered NPS ORV ramps that make 4x4 beach driving (with a permit) a real option here, unlike the core beaches further north.

Good to know

  • Call or check the website directly for site types, hookups, and current availability
  • NC-12 is the only road connecting Hatteras Island's villages and can close temporarily during storms, so it's worth checking conditions before a shoulder- or hurricane-season trip
  • Peak season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day; April-May and September-October tend to be quieter and milder

My husband and our two girls (3&1) had an absolutely wonderful vacation staying on site in our travel trailer. The campground was clean and small which we loved and made it so accessible and walkable to go to the playground, restaurant on site, pool and the beach. Our kids enjoyed themselves. The food at the restaurant was delicious and we even explored a bit of the shops and an ice cream shop right down the road. There was also a food lion very close in case you needed anything. 10/10 looking forward to visiting again!

We spent 4 days at this little campground. It was exactly what we wanted. It was small but plenty of room. Never felt cramped and certainly not overwhelmed. The bathouse was good and clean and the location next to the pier was awesome! Most folks had dogs, including us, but everyone was respectful and kept dogs on the leash and all dogs and owners were very friendly. This is a basic campground with no staff, capstone on site. The pier does have some supplies available.

Our 1st time camping at Avon Pier & RV resort. Our 8 day stay was relaxing —- From check-in to timely responses to my inquiries, great wi-fi service for TV streaming, clean secure bathhouse, access to nice private pool, variety of site sizes, big rig friendly, beachside, next door to the pier and many places to eat and shop nearby made our stay wonderful! Did I mention the wifi was the best I’ve experienced in my decades of camping 😊. Also enjoyed the band Thurston Howell who played from 8p-10p at the pool. Very nice crowd & was family friendly. Will always recommend the campground! It’s small but packs a punch. A returning camper.

This is truly a hidden gem! We liked everything about this resort, the location is amazing, the conditions and cleanliness of the place are incredible. We extended our stay twice for a full 10 days and if we had the time, we would definitely stay longer. What I like a lot about the resort is that it’s small only 26 spots but they did not compromise on the share open space. I respect the resort management/owner to keep it that way and not overcrowding it. Definitely coming back even though it takes us 9 hours to get there!

This place is perfect! I can’t say that enough. Location to beach-perfect! Bathhouse-clean and safe! Pool-perfect! Wi-Fi-perfect! Love how small the place is so it’s perfect for someone who doesn’t like crowds. We will definitely be back again and again.
