Barrier Island Station
Vacation rental living on Duck Road, minutes from Duck's soundside boardwalk and shops
About
Barrier Island Station is a vacation rental property on Duck Road, the main route running through the heart of Duck on the northern Outer Banks. Renting here puts you close to Duck's walkable town center — a stretch of boutique shops, restaurants, and the soundside boardwalk along Currituck Sound, all reachable without much of a drive.
Duck itself has a different feel than the busier core-beaches towns to the south: smaller in scale, quieter, and generally considered one of the more upscale spots on this stretch of the Outer Banks. It's also close to the rest of what the northern beaches have to offer — Corolla's paved stretch, with the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, the Whalehead Club, and Currituck Heritage Park, is a short drive north, as is the Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary between the two towns. Peak season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, with April–May and September–October offering a quieter, more comfortable stretch for a stay. As with anywhere on this coast, it's worth keeping an eye on the August–October hurricane season window when booking.

I have been going here for over 30 years. It is home away from home. My condo was renovated a few years ago and is already decomposing. Very little upkeep is happening which is incredibly disappointing. Having said that, they have made significant improvements throughout the facility overall.

The front desk staff is completely incompetent and unhelpful. Outside of the location not much good about this resort.

Had a sewage issue on Sunday and wasn't repaired or sanitized until Monday. Other than that ,all good.

Absolutely so bad we left and found a hotel nearby. So much for paying for a room that was so dated, microwave didnt work ( never received one after multiple requests . Please drive TO KDH and stay at the travel lodge. The worst resort I've ever stayed at in my life.
