NPS camping in the dunes at Frisco, steps from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore beach
Frisco Campground is one of the National Park Service's oceanside campgrounds within Cape Hatteras National Seashore, set among the dunes just off NC-12 in Frisco, between Buxton and Hatteras village. It's a no-frills, close-to-the-sand option for anyone who wants to fall asleep to the surf without paying resort prices — tent and RV sites here trade hookups and shade for direct proximity to the beach.
Camping here operates seasonally, and reservations are worth locking in ahead of a summer visit — check nps.gov/caha for current dates, fees, and site availability. NC-12 is the only road linking Frisco to the rest of the island, and it can close during storms, so it's worth checking road conditions before you head down, especially in hurricane season (August through October carries the real risk here). The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in nearby Buxton is an easy day trip, though it's currently closed for climbing.
