Captain's Landing Waterfront Inn sits right on Silver Lake Harbor in the heart of Ocracoke village, the kind of spot where you can watch charter boats and sailboats come and go without leaving your room. Ocracoke is the most remote stretch of Outer Banks Travel's coverage area — there's no bridge or road in, just the free NC ferry from Hatteras village (about an hour) or the longer toll ferries from Cedar Island or Swan Quarter on the mainland — so staying on the water here comes with a real sense of having reached somewhere apart from the rest of the coast.

Location

The inn's address on Irvin Garrish Highway puts it within walking distance of the harbor docks and the village shops and restaurants clustered around Silver Lake, Ocracoke's historic anchorage. The island has real pirate history to go with it: Blackbeard was killed in a battle in nearby Ocracoke Inlet in 1718, and Springer's Point, a preserved maritime forest at the edge of the village, is traditionally linked to him. From the inn it's an easy walk or bike ride into the village, and a short drive north up NC-12 toward the pony pens and the beach-access ramps leading into the undeveloped seashore.

Ocracoke is reachable only by ferry or small plane — there's no bridge connecting it to the mainland or to the rest of the Outer Banks
Hurricane season runs June through November, with the real risk window in August–October; ferry suspensions and evacuation orders can happen here with less warning than elsewhere on the Outer Banks, so it's worth checking conditions before you travel

While we haven't slept EVERYWHERE in Ocracoke, NC over the past 42 years since our first visit, I can say that, of the many places we've rested our heads, Captain's Landing has been the very best! Our helpful hostess Betty was also the best! The location is ideal and picturesque. Our room was a spacious suite, with a complete kitchen and amenity-filled, including a large balcony overlooking Silver Lake and the Ocracoke Lighthouse. Or, guests can stay inside and enjoy the wonderful harbor-view in air-conditioned comfort. You can park your vehicle and walk to most Ocracoke attractions in minutes. Or, you can drive your 4x4 to the beach in a few minutes more and spend time under your Shibumi on the most beautiful beach you'll ever visit. Excellent maid service every day. There were no significant 'negatives' about our stay at Captains Landing. And, by the way, I don't think there are any pet-friendly rooms, but, there is a great, local answer to the question, "What about my dog?" During the summer months, the best kennel you'll ever experience, Sandy Paws Bed & Biscuit Inn, can accommodate the pooch only minutes away from Captain's Landing! Janet, the proprietor, will care for your pet like it is her own. And, you can check-out and check-in your pet during its stay on the Island. But, that's a whole other 5-star review!

The most lovely hospitality! Miss Betty, could not have been kinder or more helpful. The room was clean and well stocked. The furnishings are old and maybe not quite as comfortable as you might wish but that won't keep us away. Great views, nice people.

Staff are always friendly and helpful! Rooms are clean and all have gorgeous views of Silver Lake. We have stayed here at least 6 times in the past 12 yrs and have never been dissapointed!

We have been coming to the outer banks since 2000. Staying on Hatteras and Ocracoke, sometimes twice a year. Captain's landing has been our go to for our anniversary for the past 6 years. The owners and staff are top notch! We wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island. Clean, welcoming, and homely feel is what we love ❤️. Thank you Captain's Landing for making our anniversary vacation special.
