Days Inn by Wyndham Kill Devil Hills Oceanfront - Wilbur

Oceanfront Days Inn on Kill Devil Hills' Beach Road, named for Wilbur Wright

Kill Devil Hills, NC

About

Days Inn by Wyndham Kill Devil Hills Oceanfront - Wilbur sits directly on Virginia Dare Trail β€” the Beach Road corridor that runs the length of the northern Outer Banks β€” putting guests on the sand side of Kill Devil Hills rather than across the highway. The "Wilbur" in the name is a nod to Wilbur Wright, half of the pair who made the first powered flight a few miles from here in 1903, a detail that fits right in with a town built around that history.

Rooms here are straightforward Days Inn accommodations under the Wyndham umbrella, geared toward travelers who want direct beach access without a lot of fuss. Being on Virginia Dare Trail means the Wright Brothers National Memorial, Jockey's Ridge State Park, and the shops and restaurants along the Beach Road corridor are all a short drive or bike ride away.

Book ahead for summer weekends β€” Memorial Day through Labor Day is peak season on this stretch of the Outer Banks, and rooms move fast. April, May, September, and October bring quieter crowds and easier parking along the beach.

πŸ›‘πŸš¨βš οΈ Allergy Warning β€” Strong Bleach Smell and Cleanliness Concern Unfortunately, we had to cancel our reservation at this property after entering the room. As soon as I walked in, there was an extremely strong bleach/chemical smell. I have a bleach allergy, so this immediately became a serious health concern for me. πŸ›‘πŸš¨We also encountered a cockroach at the property. Unfortunately, I did not take a photo, but I want to be honest about what we experienced.πŸ›‘πŸš¨ I explained my concern, but because we had booked through Booking.com, I was told that there was not much they could do because it was a third-party reservation. I understand that we booked through a third-party website, but when it comes to a guest’s health and an allergy concern, I believe it should still be taken seriously. For me, health comes before money. Because of these concerns, we decided not to stay and canceled the reservation. We then chose to stay at Spark by Hilton, which was a much better option for us. I am sharing this review especially for anyone with allergies or chemical sensitivities. If you have a bleach or chemical allergy, please be very careful and ask questions about the cleaning products and room conditions before booking. πŸš¨πŸ›‘ πŸ›‘πŸš¨I also noticed that some information online may not accurately represent the current condition of this property. I hope management will consider investing in improvements to the rooms, cleanliness, and pest control. A few meaningful improvements could make a big difference for future guests.πŸš¨πŸ›‘ I did not cancel because of the booking website itself. I canceled because the condition of the room and the strong chemical smell were not something I could safely tolerate.

Excellent value lovely room I wouldn’t really pay for any view because all you see are dunes. The staff is wonderful. Five stars.

Stayed for one night and the registration was easy and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room and the hotel was very clean . The room I was in was 212 . The stairs were my only thing that were the only downfall .
